Honoured to share the stage with successful entrepreneurs and professionals, including Mr. Lim, Mr. Thomas, and Mr. Harvey, at the engaging forum hosted by Sunway College Ipoh this Tuesday (20/6). The discussion on the "Future of Work and Emerging Career Trends" spanned various domains, such as accounting, entrepreneurship, design, management, and hospitality.

Here are some key takeaways:

1. Embrace the undeniable presence of artificial intelligence, understanding that its effective utilization determines our career success.

2. Hybrid and remote work opportunities offer flexibility and a chance to gather diverse experiences without long-term commitments.

3. The human touch remains invaluable, underscoring the importance of nurturing and strengthening personal connections in an AI-driven world.

4. Practicing Tender, Loving, and Care in our interactions creates a profound and enduring impact.

The Lil Courageous Tiger - CNY 2022 WIP

2022 Lunar New Year Character Design - The Lil Courageous Tiger

This is a story about a brave little tiger cub named Wang Fei-Hu who dreams of flying, loves sleeping and hates studying. He harbours the ambition to save the world from evil when he grows up.

Initial exploration sketches for the project.

We derived the concept for this character from the chinese idiom “如虎添翼”, which roughly translates to like a tiger gaining wings, meaning an already strong person gaining extra strength or abilities. We hope that everyone will be able to get better and stronger in 2022.

Here are some of the shots from our project, and stay tuned as we release the illustrations real soon!

Make It Happen x 100 Designers Exhibition

Approximately 2 weeks ago, we attended Main-Main’s grand opening, with the honour of being invited to be one of the designers of their Make It Happen Exhibition at Jumpa @ Sungei Wang.

Main-Main is a creative incubator who helps build and develops creative startups in Malaysia. They believe that by forming a complete creative ecosystem, the local creative community would be able to thrive and flourish.

Therefore when they posted about the idea of having 100 creatives to crossover for this project, we knew that we had to take part.

Because Creatives + Crossovers = Fun!

The theme is 每一个【M】代表一个精神,一种态度, which translates loosely to

/

‘There Is A Spirit Behind Every M’

/

We were given a list of 100 M Words to start with, and eventually tap into its potential and design an icon based on the chosen word.

Feeling adventurous, Carrot and I decided to go with Morphing.
We think that i fits the overall exhibition theme really well, as creative businesses are constantly changing and morphing into different shapes, sizes and forms.

The word morph comes from the Greek word "metamorphosis," which means to transform. We think that glitches will be able to convey the message clearly, because when we transform or break out of our comfort zone, we will inevitably have problems or obstacles.

Therefore, we think that using glitch which means ‘ a small problem or fault that prevents something from being successful or working as well as it should ' would fit the theme nicely.

Thank you Printcious for the awesome tees!

Absolutely digging this quote, meaning ‘ if you love something, you don’t have to ask others if its good’.

Shouting Out Loud!

Shouting out loud is an action that you normally wouldn’t often associate with designers and creatives. However, contrary to its literal meaning, this annual creative session held by Adego Academy CUTOUT Magazine Malaysia aims at holding meaningful design dialogues between creatives.

We are honoured to be invited by Adego Academy and Jay Lim (many thanks to them) representing our studio - LeadLab and also as a member of Ipoh Design Associates (IDEA).

Being the 2nd installation of Shout Out Loud ( the previous one held in 2017 ) creatives from over the region gathered to take part, and generate creative spark through conversation.

Big guns in the creative industry including Jay Lim (Malaysia), 1983 Asia (China/Malaysia), Jun Teo (Singapore) and Adelien Vandeweghe (Belgium) spoke and share with us their past experiences, insights and also case studies.

Creatives flocked to the event hall at Hotel Taman Molek, hours before the event.

Because we had done our online registration, what we have to do is just tick our names and put our stickers on and we’re good to go!

Upon entering the venue, you will see rollup stands showcasing the speakers and some of their stunning visuals. For instance, Jay’s work is a mixture of commercial and experimental visuals, with type being his forte. Besides having his own studio Tsubaki, he also founded Cutout Magazine and it is because of this publication that we get to know him!

On the other hand, Jun has a plethora of breathtaking illustrations and 3D letters and Adelien specializes in layout and book designs. Fan favourite, 1983 Asia have a distinct asian vibe in their branding designs and even established their own Asia Aesthetics Interview and Asia Aesthetics Workshop as well!

Jay conducts the dialogue session with the speakers, and we are grateful to be able to hear from them.

Before signing off, here are a few points that we got from the dialogue:

  • We have to be persistent in our work, and not settle for mediocrity.

  • Understanding your value as a designer (creative), is the first step to charge more.

  • If your content does not connect with consumers, then you have failed.

  • Find and explore your own creative process, instead of following current trends, because they may not be the best way for you to grow.

Thats all for now, cheers and we hope you enjoyed it!
Once again we would like to express our gratitude to Principal Tan and Jay for having us :)
